Maslenitsa is a Russian celebration noting the end of winter and the start of spring.
It is also called Butter Week. Much to the kids dissapointment we did not dine on sticks of butter! It is called Butter Week because lots of pancakes are eaten, smothered with tons of butter. So I guess it would be equivalent to eating a stick of butter. I love these school projects but I do have a line I will not cross (like eating sticks of butter1)
The kids made Russian flags and we dined in a few Russian dishes.
Menu
blini - flat pancakes
pirog - Russian apple pie
malinoviy kisel - raspberry drink with whip cream
Henry kept saying, "I LOVE Russian food! I LOVE Russian food!"
Then he ate it. . .
