School Lessons

Last week we spent a couple of days out on field trips.

The first one was at the Air Force Museum.

They have classes for the kids on different aviation topics.

 

How cool is it to do a class under all those airplanes!!!

 

 Henry made a math paper for Peter.

Peter was excited -  



It says "he has ten candy bars and two away how many candy bars did he have"

 I am teaching Lilly to sew.

She is making a ballerina skirt.

On Friday, I took the big boys to go see the Dead Sea Scrolls on display in Cincinnati.

It was AMAZING!  Seeing the Word of God written on actual papyrus from so long ago brought tears to my eyes.  

Unfortunately, the big boys didn't think it was quite so cool!

I kept saying things like "Look at that! We just studied the Ottoman Empire!"

And them saying things like, "How far does this exhibit go?"


And about 10 minutes into the exhibit Ben must of really felt like he was in a dry desert land because he had. to. have. water.

But of course, there is no way out except for a mile down the exhibit hall and then a mile back in to where we left off. 

By the end of it, the other moms and I were joking that one day we can tell our kids,

"Remember when you sat on a bench and watched us look at the Dead Sea Scrolls?" Ha!

They did endure it and were VERY happy to have some play time with their pals! 

In Science we learned about Mars.

The largest Volcano in our Solar System is on Mars.

So the boys made their own Mt. Olympus.

School can be fun!

As long as there are no 2,000 year old scrolls involved! :)

These Days (4-9)

Peter played a practical joke on his brothers.

 

One took it well.

 

The other one, did not.

 Finally, it feels like Spring.

A bobcat visited our front yard and ripped out the steps from 1928.

Ben's basketball season is over.

His team had a pizza party to celebrate the season.



The big boys do their own laundry. I made them laundry bags out of a canvas drop cloth.

 

Boys Room

This week I was showing Ben the pictures of our house when we first bought it.

He said, "Yuck, why did you buy it?" :)

Here is the boys room.

When we moved in, Peter was 3 months. My dad and sister worked long hours to get the nasty carpet out, wallpaper down and blue paint put on the walls so we could put Peter in there.

After a bit, I stenciled stars all over the room. I added glow in the dark paint over the stars so that at night they all glowed.  It was really cool!

When Peter was 3 and Ben was 2, we decided to put them in a room together.

I wanted it to feel more like a boys room than a nursery so I repainted.



 

 

I REALLY liked it! Then we had Henry and a year and a half later a little girl entered our family!

 

Now with 3 boys in a room, it needed to be expanded!!!

We decided to take the small closet out and make it a little cove for the bunk beds.

Friends of ours came over to help with the saw! 

What a messy job!!!

 

FAST FORWARD a couple more years. . .

Another friend came over and cut more of the wall away, added drywall. Peter helped me paint and here it is today!

It has made such a huge  difference!

Let me also say that the boys were not home when I took these pictures.

It NEVER looks like this! Clean!

So I figured I would take my "blog worthy" pictures and then let them take back over with their mountains of stuff!



 

Since we took their original closet out we added one to the far end of the room.

(the door on the right)

Just beyond the wall is a hall closet.

We took out the door from the hallway and put it in the boys room.

 The doors still need another coat of paint and we need to finish the trim but years of work is finally starting to show!!

Henry has already left his mark on the new paint! 

(I am still working on the other side of the room.)

 



Project Fair

We joined a Homeschool Co op this school year and have been so blessed by it.

This past Friday the Co op held a Project Fair.

The boys set up all the clay figures they have been working on through the year. 

(Lilly wanted to be a part of it too!)

Lilly enjoyed time with her friends.

Easter 2013

We had a wonderful Easter weekend!

On Saturday we went to visit the Easter bunny and participate in an egg hunt.

Someone asked me when the kids got too old for egg hunts.

Seriously, if I could, I would participate one.

Find pretty colored eggs with candy and money in them!!??

Yes, please!!!

On Sunday, the kids checked out their baskets before church.

In each of their baskets, in one egg, I wrote a message that led the kids on a

scavenger hunt to find a gift.

They had to look in some funny places. . . 

 

After church we stopped at Pete's parents for an egg hunt for the kids.

And then we enjoyed a nice Easter lunch at my cousins with most of our family.



A holiday with this crew is full of laughs!!

And because the 4 egg hunts my kids already had wasn't enough. . . we had one more. :)
